Pragathi Guruprasad was born to Kanaka and Guruprasad. She took her initial Carnatic music lessons from her father, at the tender age of five.

Both her parents are fond of Carnatic music. She along with her parents relocated to the United States, where she continued her training in the Hindustani style of classical music and Carnatic music.

In addition to singing, she also learned to play The Veena. She got trained in Carnatic music under Sangeetha Swaminathan. Apart from Singing, she loves playing Table Tennis. She also learned the Sanskrit language so that can dictate Hindi and all North Indian languages with ease.
